We will exhibit a series of photographs from the photographer`s rich legacy.
Modrinjak found his way into the history of Slovenian photography as an excellent chronologist of the city of Maribor and its countryside.  He was creative in different fields, from classical press photographer`s work where he reacted as quickly as lightning focusing on the relevant motif, over the theatre production monitoring where he has captured many stories and scenes that would otherwise be lost forever, portrait photography, sport, and landscapes, up to motif and technical experiments resulting in his abstract compositions.
But above all, he was an excellent chronologist of the town and surrounding landscape, with the destinies of ‘small people’ who are normally on the margin of interest in the focus of his imagining, but that are particularly valuable as a historical and social document of those times, also having a convincing artistic dimension.
We were able to convince ourselves about the scope of his motives and the expressive note of his photographs, created over half a century from his apprenticeship with master Langerholz in Ptuj, at his retrospective exhibition held in the Umetnostna galerija Maribor ten years ago, but many photographs from his press photographer’s work at Večer and Delo were naturally erased from memory, according to the nature of a daily newspaper.
Modrinjak won many awards, he was known as an unrelenting mentor of young photographers and, last but not least, as an enthusiastic collector of old cameras with the unfulfilled wish to present this collection in an autonomous museum. Maybe this wish will become reality sometime in the future; in fact; the town could thank one of its most important chronologists in this way.
